Get More From Your RV A/C With RV AirFlow

Are you tired of the low performance of your RV A/C units?  Let’s be honest, they’re not the most efficient items and we haven’t met anyone that’s actually impressed with their A/C airflow. That needs to end, you need to get more from your RV A/C!!!  We want to ensure we are comfortable in our RV and that means having RV A/C units that perform well.  In order to make that happen, we needed to make some modifications. The first was installing the SoftStartRV product on our two 15k units so they could run on 30-amps or a generator.  The second is all about getting more airflow out of our ducted unit and we found an amazing product called RV AirFlow that makes that possible.

WHAT IS AN RV AIRFLOW AND DO YOU NEED ONE?

The RV AirFlow is a module that is installed in the plenum of your RV A/C.  It’s made of high-density expanded polystyrene that is water-resistant and prevents mold and bacteria. The module captures 100% of the airflow from the supply and delivers it directly to your ducts thereby increasing efficiency and airflow.  RV AirFlow claims that their product can increase the airflow of an RV A/C unit by up to 40%.  But do you really need it?

The supply (where cold air is pushed out) and return (where the air is brought back in) sections of an RV A/C unit are right next to each other and only separated by a small piece of foam or insulation.  The dumps (portions on the side of your unit that allow air to flow out) release air from the plenum directly out, but the vents for the return are next to that.  This creates the possibility of decreased airflow.  And when you close the dumps to send air to the ducts it loses some of the flow. This occurs because the air from the supply is forced into the plenum (a large open space) and then has to make its way to the entry points for the ducts.

The RV AirFlow module takes the cool air coming from the supply and sends it directly to the ducts.  This eliminates the use of the dumps under the unit but increases airflow to the ducts throughout the RV. If you want to get the most out of your A/C units and make them more efficient, you need something like RV AirFlow to make it happen.

HOW TO GET AN RV AIRFLOW MODULE

We decided to purchase a unit and see if it lives up to the hype.  Again, we purchased the product and this review is in no way sponsored by RV AirFlow. And although we’re not sponsored, we do have a way to save you money.  You can save 15% by using our RV AirFlow Discount Code, HINTONTHETRAIL15.

You will need to access RVAirFlow.com to ensure they have a module that fits your specific RV A/C unit.  If they do not have a compatible unit listed you can follow their instructions to determine if one of their products will fit.  We have a Coleman Mach 15 and that is one of the compatible units so we purchased one and it arrived about a week later. The team at RV AirFlow is constantly working to make modules for different A/C units so if they don’t currently have one, there’s a good chance one will be coming out soon.

INSTALLATION IS EASY

The installation process is pretty straightforward and unit-specific instructions will come in the box.  They’ll give you a list of required tools but individual units may require different ones.  Ensure you follow the directions. We were able to complete installation on our RV A/C unit in about 30 minutes and found the instructions very easy to follow. You will be removing the A/C filters, covers, the mounting plate, and the separator. Again, the instructions will be specific to your unit so we won’t go into them here. Just know that we found it simple and quick.

DOES IT WORK?

We used an anemometer and tested all of our ducts before and after installation and were very impressed.  The smallest increase was 19% and the largest was 50%. The overall 33% airflow increase left us very impressed.  The rooms cooled down faster and the A/C unit seemed quieter.  We did not test the decibel limits prior to but wish we had!  Regardless, the RV AirFlow lives up to its name and the hype.  It definitely has increased the airflow to all of our ducts and increased the comfort level in our RV. Pairing this with the SoftStartRV products has helped us get the most of our RV A/C units and we couldn’t be happier!

  1. Hi.

Looking at your chart of increased performance…

3 mph to 6 mph is a 100% increase, not 50%. It doubled; it didn’t increase by half.
    A 50% increase from 3 mph would be 4.5 mph. similarly, 2.5 to 4.1 is a 64% increase not 39%.

You may want to recalculate and edit that chart…

    • Bob, thank you for reading and taking the time to comment! We realized that our math was off about a month after posting everything. Because there is also YouTube video that we can’t really go back and pull down and change we decide to keep them as is. If our numbers were over what the results were we would have pulled both, but since we’re lower we decided to leave it. Thank you!
